Colossians: Christ, The Center Of All Things

Colossians: Christ, The Center Of All Things

Why Colossians Still Matters Today

In a world full of distractions, opinions, and endless voices telling us who we should be, the Book of Colossians reminds us of one powerful truth.

Jesus is the center of everything.

The apostle Paul wrote Colossians to encourage believers to keep their focus on Christ above culture, trends, and confusion. This message is especially important for families, children and parents learning how to build their lives on faith.

Colossians teaches us who Jesus is, and how that truth changes how we live every day.

The Big Message Of Colossians

The main theme of Colossians can be summed up in one sentence:

Jesus is supreme over creation, salvation, and our daily lives.

Paul wanted believers to understand that Jesus isn't just part of life, he is the foundation of life.

  1. Jesus Is Lord Over Creation

One of the most beautiful passages in Colossians is found in chapter 1

"For in him all things were created... all things have been created through him and for him." Colossians 1:16

This verse tells us something incredible:

  • Jesus created the universe
  • Jesus created people
  • Jesus created YOU

Nothing exists without him.

This truth helps children understand their value and purpose. They are not accidents. They are created intentionally and loved deeply by father God.

You matter because Jesus made you on purpose.

2. Jesus Is Lord Over Salvation

Colossians reminds us that Jesus didn't only create the world -he came to save it.

Paul explains that through Jesus sacrifice:

  • Our sins are forgiven
  • Our relationship with father God is restored
  • We are welcomed into father God's family

Colossians 1:14 says:

"In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins,"

This means Jesus took our mistakes and gave us a fresh start.

Jesus loves us so much that he made a way for us to be close to father God forever.

3. Jesus Is Lord Over Our Identity

The world often tells us to find our identity in popularity, performance, or appearance.

But Colossians teaches a different message.

Colossians 2:10 says:

"And in Christ you have been brought to fullness."

When we belong to Jesus, we don't need to chase approval or compare ourselves to others.

Our identity becomes rooted in grace, love and purpose.

You are complete in Christ!

4. Living A Christ-Centered Life

The second half of Colossians focuses on how we should live once we understand who Jesus is.

Paul encourages believers to:

  • Be kind
  • Forgive others
  • Show love
  • Practice gratitude
  • Live with faith and patience

Colossians 3:23 gives a powerful life lesson:

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord."

This teaches that everything you do can honor father God.

5. Faith Starts At Home

Colossians also speaks directly to families. It encourages love, patience, and encouragement within the home.

Faith grows strongest when it is practiced daily in small moments:

  • Bedtime prayers
  • Kind words
  • Helping others
  • Showing forgiveness
  • Saying thank you

When Christ is the center of the home, children grow in faith naturally.

Teaching Children The Message Of Colossians

Here are simple ways families can apply Colossians together:

Family Discussion Questions

  1. What does it mean that Jesus created everything?
  2. How can we show kindness today?
  3. What are we thankful for right now?
  4. How can we put Jesus first this week?

Family Activity Idea

Create a "Christ At The Center" poster for your home and write ways your family can show love, gratitude and kindness.

Colossians gives us a powerful reminder:

When Christ is at the center, everything else falls into place.

He is the reason we exist.

He is the reason we are saved.

He is the reason we live with hope.

Helping children understand this truth gives them a strong spiritual foundation that will guide them for life.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help our families keep Jesus at the center of our homes and hearts. Teach us to live with kindness, love and gratitude every day. In Jesus name Amen.
